Onion recall: FDA says get ride of this type immediately
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration are telling consumers to get rid of Gills Onions products.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 73 people got sick over 22 states after eating the onions, while 15 of those were hospitalized. The CDC reports the illness is likely due to Salmonella poisoning

The recall includes:
- Diced mirepoix (10-ounce cups)
- Diced celery and onions (8-ounce cups)
- Diced red onions (8-ounce cups)
- Diced yellow onions (3-pound bags and 8-ounce cups)
The sell-by dates for the yellow onions is between Aug. 8-28, 2023. The agency urges people to “wash items and surfaces” that may have come into contact with the contaminated onions using hot water with soap or in the dishwasher.
