One of Alabama’s most expensive properties is this $17.8 million quail plantation

A 3,650-acre wild quail plantation in St. Clair County is currently on the market for $17.8 million.

Triple Creek, which was the subject of a piece in The Wall Street Journal, is believed to be one of the top three wild quail plantations in the state.

Jon Kohler of Jon Kohler and Associates is listing the property.

According to the listing, the property is located 30 to 35 miles from Birmingham off Interstate 20 East.

The majority of the quail habitat is protected by a conservation easement. The habitat includes about 1,500 acres. There are eight wild quail courses and 21 miles of feed trails, as well as habitats for deer and turkey.

There are three stocked fishing ponds, 4.9 miles of main creeks and 7.9 miles of smaller creeks.

The property’s 3,000-square-feet main house has four bedrooms and 4.5 baths. Bobwhite Lodge is a four-bedroom suite with a large great room. There’s also a three-bedroom and two-bath guest cabin.

For sport, there’s an eight-machine, five-stand clay system with stadium lights, a putting green with three tee boxes, and two equipment barns, as well as a picnic pavilion.

According to the Journal, Kevin Stump, 66, bought about 750 acres in 2013 and began importing bobwhite quail from southwest Georgia. Stump is the founder of the natural-gas marketing company Interconn Resources. He and his wife, Jane, 67, use the plantation as a getaway with their children and grandchildren, he said, but have decided to sell the property because they are getting older and the property is very large.

The plantation takes its name from three main creek bottoms – Wolf Creek, Hearthstone Creek, and Turkey Branch.
