An investigation is underway after a person was found dead early Thursday in a burning home.

Fairfield firefighters responded at 1:24 a.m. to the blaze at a house in the 6400 block of Court F.

Once the fire was extinguished, the victim’s remains were found in the debris, said Jefferson County Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates.

The victim, pronounced dead on the scene at 4:18 a.m., has not yet been identified.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death, and the Alabama State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
