Ohio State transfer wide receiver, former 4-star recruit commits to Auburn
A day after Auburn secured its transfer portal quarterback, the Tigers picked up another potential weapon for Hugh Freeze’s offense.
Former Ohio State wide receiver Caleb Burton, who hit the portal April 25, announced late Saturday morning that he has committed to Auburn. Burton is the third post-spring transfer addition for Auburn, joining Jack linebacker Jalen McLeod from Appalachian State and quarterback Payton Thorne from Michigan State.

Burton is the second wide receiver transfer Auburn has added since Freeze took over as head coach. The Tigers picked up former Cincinnati receiver Nick Mardner, who previously played for wide receivers coach Marcus Davis at Hawaii in 2021, during the early transfer window.
Burton is a 5-foot-11, 169-pound receiver originally from Austin. He signed with the Buckeyes as part of their 2022 class, which finished as the No. 4 class in the country, and was rated as a four-star prospect, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. Burton was rated as the nation’s No. 132 overall player coming out of Texas powerhouse Lake Travis High and the No. 21 wide receiver in the class.
As a senior at Lake Travis, Burton caught 49 passes for 845 yards and 15 touchdowns.
Burton redshirted at Ohio State last season while learning from a stacked wide receiver room that included the likes of Marvin Harrison Jr., Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Emeka Egbuka.
