Officials trying to ID man killed when he crashed stolen motorcycle on I-65

A man driving a stolen motorcycle was killed when he lost control of the bike on Interstate 65 in northern Jefferson County.

The crash happened at 12:30 p.m. Monday on I-65 northbound in the Gardendale area.

Jefferson County Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said the man was traveling at a high rate of speed when he lost control and was thrown from the motorcycle. He was then struck by an oncoming vehicle.

The victim was taken to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 7:38 p.m.

Yates said the motorcycle was found to be stolen, and the driver had no form of identification. He has not yet been identified.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is leading the investigation.
