Notre Dameâs Sam Hartman reveals Alabama, Auburn recruited him out of transfer portal
Sam Hartman lived up to the hype Saturday, leading Notre Dame to a 42-3 win over Navy.
Hartman finished 19 of 23 with 251 yards while tying a school record for a debut with four TD passes.
He revealed Monday on “The Dan Patrick Show” he was a sought-after quarterback in the transfer portal, explaining there were three SEC schools inquiring about Hartman’s services.
“There was quite a few,” Hartman said when asked to name schools which reached out. “I mean you can think of any college that needed a quarterback or was in need was reaching out. Florida was one. Auburn was another one. At the time, there was a little bit of Alabama. It was all strategic in my way of just knowing that it came down to the offense in place here at Notre Dame.”
Hartman came to South Bend from Wake Forest after compiling an ACC career-record 110 TD passes and 12,967 yards, more than Notre Dame’s career record. If he tops 4,100 yards for the second time in three seasons, he’ll be second all-time on the FBS list. Case Keenum had a record 19,217 yards with Houston from 2007-2011.
