Noteworthy Birmingham bar & grill is moving, but not going far
Avondale Common House is moving at the end of December, but folks who love the food there won’t have to travel far. The restaurant, 4100 Third Ave. South, is merging with Ferus on 41st, just a few blocks away.
Avondale Common House posted the news on Saturday via social media, saying:
“Hey friends! We will be relocating after the new year. Thankfully we will be merging with our friends at Ferus on 41st right down the street. We’ve had many wonderful years in this location and hope to see you all soon. We will be closing these doors December 31st and opening new doors January 3rd at 430 41st St. South. Thank you for your support. See you soon for Common House eats and Ferus Brews!”
It’s unclear what prompted the move by Avondale Common House, which opened in 2017 in the heart of Avondale’s entertainment zone, in the former home of a restaurant called the Wooden Goat. Before that, the building was the location of Prestige Auto Imports.
Currently, Avondale Common House is open Wednesdays through Sundays, serving appetizers, salads, burgers, sandwiches, entrees and desserts. Signature cocktails are on the agenda, as well, along with a Sunday brunch that features live music. Avondale Common House was founded by Ellen and William Rogers, both of whom have experience on Birmingham’s restaurant scene, at eateries such as Ocean, 26, Iron City and Sky Castle.
Ferus on 41st, a tap room and restaurant, opened in 2021 at 430 41st St. South, in the former location of Fancy’s on Fifth, an oyster bar and burger joint. Ferus on 41st has its own menu, served Tuesdays through Sundays and focusing mainly on appetizers, salads and sandwiches. Cocktails and Sunday brunch are part of the blueprint there, along with events such as concerts and open mic nights.
Ferus Artisan Ales, the parent company owned by Colby Lake, also has locations in Trussville and Fairhope.
