Northport man stabbed neighbor during argument, then held police at bay before surrendering, authorities say
A Northport man is behind bars after authorities say he stabbed his neighbor and then held police at bay for more than an hour.
Northport police officers responded at 10:40 p.m. Tuesday to the 4500 block of Twin Lake Court on a report of a stabbing.
Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit Capt. Jack Kennedy said witnesses reported that a man had been stabbed by a neighbor during a verbal dispute. The injury required medical treatment but was not life-threatening.
Police identified the suspects as Walter Turner III. Kennedy said Turner refused to exit his residence. The Northport Police Department’s Special Response Team was activated.
Turner barricaded himself inside his home for more than a hour, Kennedy said. He eventually surrendered without further incident.
Turner is charged with second-degree assault. He is in the Tuscaloosa County Jail on $15,000 bond.
