North-South softball rosters announced for 2023 All-Star Week

The July 19 AHSAA North-South All-Star Softball Game rosters have been announced by the Alabama High School Athletic Directors & Coaches Association. The two teams will play in the 27th annual event at Montgomery’s Lagoon Park as part of All-Star Week.

AHSAA All-Star games for rising seniors will also be played in basketball, baseball, volleyball, boys and girls soccer, cross country, tennis and golf during the All-Star Week, July 17-22.

The 64th annual North-South All-Star Football Game was played last December at Mobile with the South winning 42-7.

Christy Ferguson of Danville and Becky Seymour of Moody will coach the North All-Star team with Kent Chambers of Bob Jones serving as the administrative coach. The South coaches are Chris Steiner of Brewbaker Tech and Cindy Hawthorne of Brantley. Susan Barnes of Elba will be the administrative coach. Steiner led Brewbaker Tech to the Class 5A state title last week and Hawthorne led Brantley to the 1A crown.

The South team features four players who competed in the 2023 AHSAA State Softball Championships at Oxford’s Choccolocco Park last week in Class 6A MVP Mya Holt of champion Wetumpka, her teammate Ella Watson; Jesslyn Gordon of Class 7A state runner-up Fairhope; Mary Suzan Aman of Class 4A runner-up Houston Academy; and Reese Cauley of Class 3A runner-up Opp.

The North All-Stars feature two players who competed in the championship tournament. Hewitt-Trussville’s Sara Phillips helped the Huskies claim the Class 7A title, Morgan Stiles helped Athens to a second-place finish in the Class 6A state tourney this year as well as to the championship in 2022.

The North stars swept last year’s games 6-3 and 10-5 to up its lead in the series to 29-23-3.
