Lawrence County authorities have one person in custody following the shooting death of a woman Wednesday.

According to the sheriff’s office, the incident happened at about 6:30 p.m. at a residence in the 2300 block of County Road 161 in the Hatton Community.

The woman died from a gunshot wound to the head. Her name has not yet been released.

The suspect, who has not been named, is being held at the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office.

The body was transported to the Alabama Forensics Lab for examination.

The State Bureau of Investigations (SBI) and the Moulton Police Department assisted in the investigation.
