North Alabama woman convicted of murder in 3-year-old boy’s death

A North Alabama woman was found guilty of felony murder Thursday in the blunt force trauma death of a 3-year-old boy.

Yalrick Zeonsha Pride, 23, was convicted by a Lauderdale County jury after an eight-day trial, said Lauderdale County District Attorney Christopher Connolly, according to WHNT.

Authorities initially suspected 3-year-old Kaiden Garner died from heat exposure after being left in a hot car in Florence in August 2020, but further investigation determined his death was caused by blunt force trauma.

Kaiden’s father, 23-year-old Blake Joshwell Townsend, was charged with capital murder in the toddler’s death. Townsend pleaded guilty in exchange for a life sentence and testifying against Pride.

Pride was initially charged with aggravated child abuse but was later charged with felony murder.
