On Sunday at 2:40 a.m. the National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning valid from Monday midnight until Tuesday 6 a.m. for Lauderdale, Colbert, Franklin, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison and Jackson counties.

The weather service adds, “Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches.”

“Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. The cold wind chills as low as zero could result in hypothermia if precautions are not taken,” adds the weather service. “If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.”
