North Alabama school system closed Tuesday following storm damage
All Tuscumbia City Schools will be closed Tuesday due to storm damage from an EF-1 tornado that touched down Saturday night, according to a recent announcement on the schools’ social media.
“We are thankful there were no serious injuries last night,” the school system wrote in a post to Facebook on Sunday.
“If any student or staff has any immediate need, contact the school they attend.”
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the citizens and businesses in Tuscumbia,” it continued.
Tuscumbia mayor William Foster told WAFF that the roof from downtown restaurant Superhero Chefs came off and took down several powerlines Saturday night.
The Red Cross arrived on Sunday to set up areas to help people who were impacted by the storms.
Colbert County EMA has advised members of the public to stay out of the area for the time being.
“Per mutual agreement with the City of Tuscumbia police department and the Colbert County Sheriff Office residents are being told not to enter the affected areas and Tuscumbia is currently in the process of only allowing access to citizens,” they posted on Facebook Sunday.
“Due to the current status of the hindrance of emergency responders we are having to place this order into effect.”
