North Alabama man wanted for allegedly striking sheriff’s deputy with vehicle during domestic dispute

A north Alabama man is being sought by authorities on a felony assault charge after they say he hit a sheriff’s deputy with his vehicle as the officer responded to a domestic dispute Wednesday night.

Cherokee County sheriff’s deputies responded to a home on County Road 585 in Cedar Bluff on a report of a domestic altercation, said Sheriff Jeff Shaver.

Jeremy “Pee Wee” Crane, 39, of Cedar Bluff, was inside a vehicle in the home’s yard when deputies arrived. As a deputy approached Crane’s vehicle, he “took off and struck the deputy,” Shaver said.

The officer suffered “very minor injuries,” the sheriff said.

Crane then drove into the woods, where he abandoned the vehicle before fleeing on foot. Deputies were unable to locate him following a brief search.

On Thursday morning, the sheriff’s office obtained a felony assault warrant for Crane.
