North Alabama man pleads guilty to lesser charge in 2021 machete attack on family

A Lauderdale County man accused in a 2021 attack on several members of his family was sentenced to prison today after pleading guilty to lesser charges.

Kyle Seeley, 37, pleaded guilty to three charges of first degree assault.

He received three sentences of 25 years, to run concurrently, according to court documents.

Seeley originally faced six counts of attempted murder following an incident that happened May 26, 2021 on County Road 57 in the Underwood community.

Deputies along with members of Florence police responded to reports that a man had attacked six family members with multiple weapons.

Authorities said Seeley launched a Molotov cocktail into his parents’ home and fired shots at his parents.

He then injured his brother with a machete, and injured his own children in front of each other, according to investigators.

After attacking his family, Seeley then holed up in a shed behind his parents’ home for at least three hours, authorities said. Seeley tried to run from the shed after law enforcement fired tear gas into the shed.

He was later taken into custody.
