North Alabama man charged with murder after man dies of fentanyl overdose
Limestone County authorities have charged a man with murder following the death of another after an apparent drug overdose.
Sheriff Joshua McLaughlin said deputies were dispatched, along with Athens police officers, to Athens-Limestone Hospital on Thursday at about midnight.
A man, later identified as Gregory Parks, 43, of Montgomery, had been dropped off at the hospital by people saying they had found him on the roadside at Huntsville Brownsferry Road and Nuclear Plant Road.
The man had no identification on him, and was later pronounced dead.
Authorities noted the two roads identified do not intersect.
Investigators then identified a suspect vehicle which was later located on Huntsville Brownsferry Road. McLaughlin said investigators detained 10 people there.
Talmadge Anthony Townson II, 39, of Falkville, was identified as a person of interest in the death.
Investigators say they believe Townson provided Parks with a fatal dose of fentanyl and tried to cover it up.
After Parks became unconscious, Townson used a knife to cut the pockets of the victim open to take his property.
Investigators searched Townson’s vehicle and found the victim’s wallet and other property, McLaughlin said.
Townson has been charged with felony murder and drug distribution.
He is being held without bond pending an Aniah’s Law hearing. More charges may be filed.
