North Alabama man charged with elderly mother’s murder
A Grant man has been charged with his mother’s murder following a chase Tuesday night, authorities said.
The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office said deputies, along with members of Grant police, responded to a call for a welfare check on an elderly person living on Kennamer Cove Drive in Grant.
Entering the residence, authorities discovered the body of Eddra Jeffries Jones, 78, of Grant, in a bedroom.
While on scene, a deputy saw a man, later identified as Brian Odell Jefferies, 45, of Grant, driving by in a vehicle matching one owned by Jones.
Grant Police Chief Chris Bearden attempted to stop the vehicle, but Jefferies continued on and a pursuit ensued. The chase ended on Butler Mill Road at the county line when Jefferies pulled over and was taken into custody.
Jefferies, the son of Jones, is being held in Marshall County Jail without bond on murder charges.
Other agencies involved were the Marshall County District Attorney’s Office and Coroner’s Office, and New Hope police.
“I appreciate the work all the deputies and officers did in this case,” Sheriff Phil Sims said. “It is important that agencies can work together to bring this individual to justice. Our prayers and thoughts go out to the family during this difficult time.”
