North Alabama man charged with attempted rape, kidnapping

Boaz police say they arrested a man “actively attempting” to sexually assault a woman last weekend.

Police Chief Michael Abercrombie said officers were called to the Sundown Apartment complex on College Avenue in Boaz early Saturday morning.

When they arrived, Abercrombie said, they found a man “actively attempting to sexually assault an adult female victim.”

After taking witness and victim statements, police arrested Douglas Heath Swearengin, 38, of Albertville.

He has been charged with first degree attempted rape and first degree attempted kidnapping.

Swearengin is being held in the Marshall County Jail on $60,000 bond.
