North Alabama man arrested in wife’s shooting death
Lauderdale County authorities have arrested a man in connection with his wife’s death.
Lauderdale County Sheriff Joe Hamilton said William Cornelius Chapin II, 63, of Florence, has been charged with murder.
The charges came after deputies responded to a call for a welfare check at around 8 a.m. Tuesday in the 4000 block of County Road 10, north of the Cloverdale community.
They found the body of a woman inside a residence. She was identified as Debra Annette Chapin, 59, of Florence, who died of an apparent gunshot wound.
WAFF is reporting that Debra Chapin, a pre-K teacher’s aide at Underwood Elementary, was William Chapin’s wife.
An investigation is continuing.
