North Alabama man arrested after firing shots at police during chase, officers say
Athens police have charged a man with attempted murder following a chase that involved several law enforcement agencies Tuesday night.
Capt. Brett Constable said the incident began at about 7:30 p.m. on U.S. 72 near Clinton Street.
An Athens police officer stopped a truck. The driver, after stopping, fled in the vehicle west on U.S. 72. According to Constable, the man fired shots from a pistol at the officer during the pursuit.
He eventually drove into a wooded area and fled on foot near Beech Fork Lane in Southwestern Limestone County until he was taken into custody after 1 a.m. Residents in the area in Limestone County were notified to stay in their homes during the search.
Florence, Huntsville and Madison police, Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office, ALEA Highway Patrol Division, ALEA Air Support Division and the U.S. Marshall Service assisted.
