North Alabama junior high school student tazed by officer after fight on campus
A school resource officer at a north Alabama high school tazed a student involved in a fight Wednesday after the officer had trouble separating the two pupils, officials said.
Meanwhile, both students involved in the fight at Austin Junior High School in Decatur were arrested on disorderly conduct charges, said Decatur City Schools Deputy Superintendent Dwight Satterfield.
Shortly after 1p.m. Wednesday, two students serving in-school suspensions for minor offenses got into a disagreement that led to the fight, Satterfield said.
After school staff and administrators couldn’t separate the students, a school resource officer with the Decatur Police Department responded to the incident, the deputy superintendent said.
“He had difficulty separating the two students and one of the students was tazed,” Satterfield said in a video addressing the incident to parents of students at Austin Junior High.
Both students were arrested on disorderly conduct charges, Satterfield said.
