North Alabama is home to an emerging spring break destination

Move over Las Vegas and Los Angeles, spring breakers this year are looking to the Rocket City, and other surprising destinations, for their getaway.

Key Data, a website that analyzes vacation rental data, examined the percentage of vacation rental bookings made on Airbnb and Vrbo from Feb. 28, 2022-April 3, 2022 as well as Feb. 27, 2023-April 2, 2023 to determine their rankings.

From there, the website looked at the cities with the most extreme increases in nights sold compared to last year.

Huntsville made the list at number seven, joining the ranks of Norfolk, Virginia and Tulsa, Oklahoma as a top 10 emerging spring break destination.

It wasn’t all surprising though. New York’s Manhattan, known for millions of visitors a year, made the number one spot.

  4. Rapid City, South Dakota (+150%)
  5. Norfolk, Virginia (+146%)

  7. Huntsville, Alabama (+128%)
  8. Alexandria, Virginia (+128%)
  9. Cleveland, Ohio (+125%)
  10. Las Vegas, Nevada (+114%)

According to Key Data, 11 million nights in U.S. rentals have already been booked up on online travel platforms Airbnb and Vrbo alone for spring break 2023. This is an increase from 9.4 million nights for spring break in 2022.
