North Alabama drug bust nets more than 2 pounds of fentanyl, authorities say

More than two pounds of fentanyl was seized and two suspects were arrested after a drug task force operation in north Alabama, authorities said.

The North Alabama High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas Drug Task Force, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office’s narcotics team and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Drug Task Force were investigating an out-of-area drug organization responsible for distributing large quantities of fentanyl when the arrests were made, Huntsville police said.

Kelvis Steven Hernandez Maldonado, 24, and Anthony Javier Hernandez Maldonado, 21, were arrested on drug trafficking charges and booked into the Madison County Jail on $1.5 million bond each, the department said.

Authorities said they found found 2.2 pounds of fentanyl on the suspects.
