A man and woman have been charged with abuse of a corpse as Lauderdale County authorities are continuing an investigation into the death of a 60-year-old woman.

Sheriff Joe Hamilton said the arrests stem from a death reported Wednesday. Deputies were notified of a woman’s death in the 500 block of Betsy Ross Lane in Florence.

According to Hamilton, investigators discovered that the woman’s body had been moved from one place to another on the property. In addition, the woman had been dead between five and seven hours before authorities were notified, he said.

“At this time, the manner of death does not appear to involve foul play; however, the body has been sent for an autopsy. This is an open investigation,” Hamilton said.

Jennifer Patricia McCain and Justin Davis McCain have been charged with abuse of a corpse and tampering with physical evidence. Jennifer McCain also faces a drug paraphernalia possession charge.
