North Alabama corrections officer hit by car, flown to hospital

A Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office corrections officer checking to see if anyone was injured in a wreck was struck by a vehicle Monday night, the department posted.

It happened around 7:45 p.m. at the intersection of Alabama Highway 157 and Parker Road in Moulton.

The officer witnessed a two vehicle accident and got out of his personal vehicle to check on injuries when he was struck by a vehicle attempting to avoid the accident.

“Our Corrections Officer was flown to Huntsville Hospital in critical condition,” the department posted.

The officer’s name was not released.

“Sheriff Sanders would like to ask the community for prayers for our Corrections Officer, his family and the Department.”
