North Alabama ambulance crash victim identified

Fort Payne police have identified a man who died Thursday in a collision with an ambulance.

Police Chief David Davis said the incident happened at about 9:14 a.m. on Glenn Boulevard S.W. in front of the Landers McLarty Ford.

Marcus Marcell Legnon, 32, of Rainville, was traveling south on Glenn Boulevard and struck the rear of a Dekalb Ambulance Service ambulance, driven by William Ray Smith of Geraldine. The ambulance then struck Douglas Wayne Peters, 68, of Stevenson.

The passenger with Peters, Connie Elliot Peters, 66, of Stevenson, was transported to Dekalb Regional by Dekalb Ambulance Service.

Legnon was pronounced dead at the scene.

At the time of the incident, the ambulance had three employees inside the vehicle with no patient aboard.

The crash is still under investigation.
