Norfolk Southern employee killed in North Alabama Wednesday
A Norfolk Southern engineer was killed Wednesday in an incident currently under investigation.
According to the National Transportation Safety Board, the incident happened at about 4:15 p.m. Wednesday in a Decatur railyard.
The locomotive the engineer was in was struck by freight cars. The incident is still under investigation.
Three NTSB investigators arrived at the accident site Thursday and are expected to be on scene for up to a week.
The name of the engineer has not yet been released.
A final report could take up to two years, NTSB said in a statement.
In a statement, Norfolk Southern said it is “grieving the loss of a member of our team and our hearts are with their loved ones during this extremely difficult time. We are cooperating fully with the NTSB to understand what happened.”
