No more 5 day COVID isolation: Major CDC guidelines changing, according to reports

Major changes are in store for the Centers for Disease Control guidance regarding COVID-19 isolation.

Citing CDC sources, The Washington Post reported new guidance will put an end to the recommendation that people with COVID quarantine for five days. Instead, people with mild or improving symptoms would no longer have to stay quarantined if they are fever-free for at least 24 hours, the Post reported. According to Reuters, the new recommendations would not apply to hospitals or other healthcare settings with vulnerable positions.

The guidelines are set to be released to the public for feedback in April.

COVID isolation guidelines have not been updated since December 2021 when isolation time was slashed from 10 to 5 days.
