No charges will be filed in deadly shooting inside east Birmingham home
The fatal shooting of a 33-year-old man inside an east Birmingham home this week has been ruled justifiable.
The Birmingham Police Department announced Friday no criminal charges will be filed in the slaying of Jeremy Andrews.
Officers were dispatched shortly before 8:30 a.m. Wednesday to house in the 7800 block of Seventh Court South on a report of a person shot.
Officer Truman Fitzgerald said they arrived to find Andrews unresponsive inside the home. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Serviced pronounced the man dead on the scene.
There were at least two young children in the home when deadly shooting took place.
Fitzgerald said the investigation shows a woman and a man were involved in a domestic argument.
Andrews then arrived at the house and got into an argument with the same man.
It was during the second argument Andrews was shot.
Police initially said the suspect fled the scene but later provided an update saying he was taken into custody at the scene.
The shooter was held in the Birmingham City Jail on a 48-hour hold as the investigation continued but he has since been released.
According to Fitzgerald, both the victim and the suspect were armed.
Andrews was Birmingham’s 18th homicide this year. Of those, two have now been ruled justifiable and therefore not deemed criminal.
In all of Jefferson County, there have been 23 homicides including the 18 in Birmingham.
