No, Amazon is not offering $85 an hour for a job

Amazon is warning social media users that an advertisement for a job with the online retail giant, reportedly paying $85 an hour, is a scam.

You may have seen the ad on Facebook or another social media platform.

“Anyone willing to work a night shift 6 pm-12 am $85 an hour” reads an advertisement that has been popping up for an online event on social media.

The ad has been appearing for at least six years.

Click on the event and you’ll be given a link to another site, where you are instructed to pay an enrollment fee.

In 2018, the Better Business Bureau identified another version of the scam, which used a bogus “human resources representative” looking for people to post product reviews.

The position reportedly paid up to $6,000 a month and allowed the applicant to work from home, according to Local News 3 in Chattanooga.

An Amazon spokesperson said such postings should be reported to the company here.

“This posting is a scam and Amazon will never ask job candidates for cash in any form or at any point in the application process,” the spokesperson said.

“You can verify that you’re working with a real Amazon recruiter by ensuring they use an @amazon.com email address. Scammers that attempt to impersonate Amazon put our customers and our brand at risk. Although these scams take place outside our store, we will continue to invest in protecting customers and educating the public on scam avoidance.”
