Nick Saban talks fans, comeback and injuries after Alabama beat Tennessee
Alabama football got off to a slow start in Saturday’s game against Tennessee. The Crimson Tide had trouble moving the ball in the first half and had a deficit to overcome, down, 20-7 at the half.
Then, the offense came storming back. Jalen Milroe finished the game with 220 yards passing, including two touchdowns, and Jase McClellan led the way on the ground, going for 115 yards and a score.
Alabama won the game 34-20, keeping its record in SEC play a perfect 5-0 and a 7-1 overall mark.
Nick Saban met with reporters after the game. Here’s what he said.
— Saban says second half was fun. Says he told players at halftime that they had a choice in what was going to happen.
— Says team can use the bye week to get a little rest. Says they should enjoy the win. Says fan had a huge impact on end of the game. Says he’s pleased with everyone in the organization.
— Says Alabama just knocked Tennessee back on the fourth down stop in the second half.
— Says he wanted to thank fans after game because of how much the crowd impacted the game. Says he wishes he could thank each fan personally.
— Saban says Tide played defense more even in second half. Says players did a good job of adapting and got a better four-man rush, which helped coverages.
— Says he loves the journey of this team’s week-to-week. Says it has taken years off his life, but he’s OK with that.
— Says he’s happy with team’s resiliency and ability to overcome adversity. Says players showed great perseverance after first half.
— Saban says run defense was important. Notes QB runs sometimes still hurt the Tide.
— Says Trey Amos played well after replacing Terrion Arnold. Says Arnold has a mild concussion. Says he didn’t play for safety reasons after not clearing protocols.
— Says Jalen Milroe played really good in the second half. Says he missed a few reads in the first half, but improved as game went along. Says Milroe made some key runs and coaches told him before game that he needed to step up in pocket with how good Volunteer edge-rushers are.
