Nick Saban holds for $100,000 ‘GameDay’ student kick, used to do it in high school

Nick Saban had only one question: “Kyle, how important is the holder?”

For the junior majoring in general social sciences at Oregon, the answer was easy.

“It’s the most important thing.”

Saban, 72, dusted off his old high school football holding duties and stepped in for the traveling Kirk Herbstreit to hold for Pat McAfee’s Kicking Contest on ESPN’s “College GameDay.”

Two kicks and $100,000 later, Kyle Kramer was the big winner.

Kramer, 6-foot-4 former athlete, played soccer, football, basketball and baseball in high school. That clearly prepared him for his big moment, but did he hustle McAfee?

He missed the 33-yard field-goal wide left on the first attempt for $80,000.

“Let’s give him another shot,” Saban told McAfee.

Kramer then rocked the second kick.

“I feel like you hustled me,” McAfee said. “Your second kick was so much better than your first. A shout out to Nick Saban for the hold.”
