Nick Saban, Greg Sankey, Sen. Katie Britt have ‘great meeting’ on NIL

Alabama Sen. Katie Britt started her Thursday meeting with Alabama coach Nick Saban and SEC commissioner Greg Sankey on Thursday.

Saban, Sankey and others representing the conference are in Washington this week to lobby Congress to regular NIL in college athletics. Britt took to Twitter to say the meeting was “great” as they discussed “the challenges that the current patchwork of NIL systems pose to the future of collegiate athletics.”

She followed her message with #RollTide.

Administrators and coaches from both Alabama and Auburn were in the nation’s capital, meeting with lawmakers on the future of college sports.

Several members of Alabama’s congressional delegation tweeted photos of meetings Wednesday.

Saban stressed earlier this week the trip is about educating, and he wants to see a more balanced system.

“I don’t know exactly what the answer is, but I think if we can get more people aware of what the issues are for them to have input on how we can sort of create a model that would help create some competitive balance but still give people opportunities to use their name, image and likeness to earn, I think, will be a good thing,” Saban said.

The goal of the meetings is to get federal assistance in regulating how college athletes can earn money off their name, image and likeness.
