Nick Saban denies explosive comment to Jimmy Sexton about Lane Kiffin

Two days after AL.com reported a new book set for release next week detailed a Nick Saban obscenity-laced comment to agent Jimmy Sexton about Lane Kiffin, the former Alabama coach denied he ever said it.

Saban appeared on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Friday ahead of his Saturday debut on “College GameDay.”

“I never made a quote about Lane Kiffin, so that wasn’t me,” Saban told McAfee when the ESPN host referenced the book.

“The Price: What It Takes to Win In College Football’s Era of Chaos,” a new tell-all from veteran journalists Armen Keteyian and John Talty (formerly of AL.com), is set for release Aug. 27. The book details a couple of volatile moments between Saban and Kiffin, who served as Alabama offensive coordinator at the time.

Per the AL.com story, Kiffin called Sexton to warn him Saban was angry with him.

“That son of a bitch,” Saban said to his agent, according to the book. “I’m going to fire you, Jimmy, for ever talking me into hiring that narcissistic prick.”

On Friday, Saban, 72, was nothing but complimentary of the Ole Miss head coach.

“Lane is one of the best play callers in the country,” Saban said. “He did a great job when he was with us. The guy always knows what to call next, and he can take advantage of a defense as good as anyone.”

Saban debuts on ESPN’s “College GameDay” on Saturday, starting at 8 a.m. (9 a.m. ET).
