NFL Week 16 prop bets for Henry, Hurts and Tagovailoa: We like an Over, but which one?

It’s a typical NFL weekend, with several former Alabama Crimson Tide stars hitting the gridiron for their Week 16 NFL matchups. On Saturday, the Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry faces a tough challenge for the heavily favored Ravens against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Former Crimson Tide quarterback Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles are slight road favorites, while Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins are short home underdogs to the San Francisco 49ers. Let’s get into my best NFL Week 16 prop bets for each former Crimson Tide star.

Best NFL Week 16 prop bets for former Alabama stars

Derrick Henry Under 85.5 rushing yards

Best odds: -115 at DraftKings Sportsbook

Former Crimson Tide running back Derrick Henry hasn’t enjoyed much success against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Ravens’ star running back has averaged only 61 rushing yards in his four previous outings against the Steelers. Henry has never scampered for 86+, and I don’t believe he’ll get that many on Sunday.

That’s because Pittsburgh plays its typical stout defense. They allow the fourth-fewest rushing yards in the NFL and a minuscule 3.8 yards per attempt on the road.

Henry can’t run through them as easily as he does against others, and he likely won’t again on Saturday night. Despite his typical 18 attempts per game, Henry has cleared 86+ yards only once across his past five. I expect another tough night for Henry.

Jalen Hurts Over 1.5 passing touchdowns

Best odds: +188 at FanDuel Sportsbook

Hurts has thrown six scoring strikes across his last five games. Hurts has slung multiple TD games in each of his previous two, and I expect the Alabama product to sling at least two against the Washington Commanders.

Washington doesn’t allow many passing yards, but they do surrender 1.6 aerial touchdowns per game. That number balloons to 1.9 when on the road, and Hurts has been hot.

Hurts and former Crimson Tide wideout DeVonta Smith have connected for a TD reception in the last two and A.J. Brown is always a threat to find the end zone. Expect the red-hot Hurts to take his act on the road and sling two TD passes.

Tua Tagovailoa Under 25.5 completions

Best odds: -125 at BetMGM Sportsbook

Tagovailoa is nursing a sore hip, and I don’t believe he’ll complete 26 passes against the San Francisco 49ers’ defense.

That’s because the 49ers allow the fourth-fewest completions per game (18.6) while also averaging 2.5 sacks per game. That’s a double-edged sword a man with a sore hip won’t easily be able to deal with. Making matters worse, Jaylen Waddle is nursing a knee injury. Tagovailoa will likely be without one of his highly-favored targets.

Miami receivers have dropped 22 passes, and the aggressive 49ers defense won’t help that total much. They’ve deflected 67 passes with 11 interceptions, and I don’t expect a banged-up Tagovailoa to complete 26 passes.
