NFL Thursday night: Saints drop game to Jaguars

A third-down pass went off Foster Moreau’s hands with the New Orleans tight end uncovered in the end zone with 25 seconds to play, and when the Saints’ fourth-down pass from 6 yards out fell incomplete, the Jacksonville Jaguars had a 31-24 NFL victory on Thursday night.

Jacksonville cornerback Darious Williams had a streak of three games with an interception entering the contest, and while the former UAB standout didn’t extend it, the Jaguars probably would be willing to give him an asterisk.

When Williams broke up a pass to wide receiver Rashid Shaheed, the football landed in the hands of linebacker Foye Oluokun, who returned the interception 24 yards for a touchdown as Jacksonville took a 24-9 lead with 6:47 left in the third quarter.

But the New Orleans offense found its legs in the fourth quarter. The Saints moved 75 yards in 16 plays and 53 yards in three plays to tie the game with 6:38 to play.

The Jaguars regained the lead on a 44-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Trevor Lawrence to wide receiver Christian Kirk with 3:08 to play, setting the drama of New Orleans’ final possession.

Williams made five tackles and broke up another pass on Thursday night. In addition to Williams, 11 players from Alabama high schools and colleges were involved in the Jacksonville-New Orleans game:

· Josh Allen (Abbeville) started at weakside linebacker for the Jaguars. Allen made two tackles and registered three quarterback hits.

· Jaguars running back Tank Bigsby (Auburn) had 2 yards on two rushing attempts.

· Jaguars defensive tackle Angelo Blackson (Auburn) made six tackles and recorded two tackles for loss. In his 124th NFL regular-season game, Blackson reached a career high for tackles and had two tackles for loss for the second time.

· Jaguars offensive lineman Chandler Brewer (Florence) is on the practice squad and not eligible to play.

· Jaguars defensive end DJ Coleman (Jacksonville State) is on the practice squad and not eligible to play.

· Calvin Ridley (Alabama) started at wide receiver for the Jaguars. Ridley had a 5-yard reception and a rushing attempt that went for no gain. Ridley has had only two games with fewer receiving yards in his career, and he didn’t have a reception in either of them.

· Cam Robinson (Alabama) started at left offensive tackle for the Jaguars.

· Jaguars safety Daniel Thomas (Lee-Montgomery, Auburn) did not record any stats, but he caught a 54-yard punt by Jacksonville’s Logan Cooke in the air to down the football at the New Orleans 7-yard line in the fourth quarter.

· Jaguars center Darryl Williams (Bessemer City) is on the practice squad and not eligible to play.

· Jaguars wide receiver Seth Williams (Paul Bryant, Auburn) is on the practice squad and not eligible to play.

· Saints quarterback Jameis Winston (Hueytown) dressed but did not play.

At noon CDT Oct. 29, Jacksonville (5-2) visits the Pittsburgh Steelers and New Orleans (3-4) visits the Indianapolis Colts.
