NFL roster cuts to reach regular-season limit begin

Each NFL team must have its 90-player preseason roster reduced to the regular-season limit of 53 by 3 p.m. CDT Tuesday. That means almost 1,200 players will be cut in the next three days.

That process started with a trickle on Saturday when teams that already had played their final preseason game this week waived or released 22 players.

Among the waived were three former Alabama high school standouts, who were cut by the Carolina Panthers:

· Safety Collin Duncan (St. James) was seeking to make the Carolina roster as an undrafted rookie from Mississippi State.

· Running back Camerun Peoples (Clay-Central), who played in the Reese’s Senior Bowl in January in Mobile, was seeking to make the Carolina roster as an undrafted rookie from Appalachian State.

· Safety Josh Thomas (Montgomery Academy) has played in four NFL regular-season games since entering the NFL in 2020 as an undrafted rookie from Appalachian State. The Panthers are Thomas’ third NFL team. He’s also been with the Buffalo Bills and Arizona Cardinals.
