NFL postseason field set for Super Bowl LVII tournament

The Jacksonville Jaguars, Miami Dolphins and Seattle Seahawks won on the final weekend of the NFL’s 2022 regular season to earn spots in the 14-team field that will decide the Super Bowl LVII champion.

The Jaguars won a showdown with the Tennessee Titans for the AFC South title on Saturday night when former Abbeville High School standout Josh Allen returned a fumble 37 yards for a touchdown with 2:51 to play.

The Dolphins’ 11-6 victory over the New York Jets on Sunday wasn’t enough to get Miami into the postseason by itself. Miami also needed the New England Patriots to lose their regular-season finale. And they did, falling to the Buffalo Bills 35-23 on Sunday.

The Seahawks needed help, too. After Seattle defeated the Los Angeles Rams 19-16 in overtime on Sunday afternoon, it needed the Green Bay Packers to lose on Sunday night to make the NFC postseason field. The Seahawks’ victory had eliminated the Detroit Lions from playoff contention, but the Lions still went out and beat Green Bay 20-16 at Lambeau Field.

The 14 teams in the playoffs have 49 players from Alabama high schools and colleges on their active rosters. There also are 12 players with Alabama football roots on the postseason teams’ practice squads and 11 on reserve lists.

Each team is allowed to elevate two practice-squad players for each game.
