NFL playoffs: Buffalo dominates Denver in AFC first-round win
The Buffalo Bills piled up a 23:26 advantage in time of possession as its offense snapped 30 more plays and gained 247 more yards than the Denver Broncos in a 31-7 victory in a first-round game in the AFC playoffs on Sunday.
Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen completed 20-of-26 passes for 272 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions and ran eight times for 46 yards. Five of Allen’s rushing attempts gained first downs on third- or fourth-down snaps as the Bills converted on 8-of-15 third-down snaps and 2-of-2 fourth-down snaps.
One of the fourth-down conversions came on a 24-yard touchdown pass to running back Ty Johnson as Buffalo took a 21-7 lead with 3:06 left in the third quarter.
On the Bills’ next possession, Allen threw a 55-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Curtis Samuel on the first play of the fourth quarter to put the game away.

Broncos cornerback Kris Abrams-Draine (Spanish Fort) made one tackle on special teams.
Amari Cooper (Alabama) started at wide receiver for the Bills. Cooper had two receptions for 8 yards.
Broncos inside linebacker Zach Cunningham (Pinson Valley) did not record any stats.
Bills offensive tackle Tylan Grable (Jacksonville State) did not record any stats.
Bills safety Kareem Jackson (Alabama) was designated as a game-day inactive. Buffalo elevated Jackson from its practice squad on Saturday to make him eligible to play on Sunday, then did not use him.
Bo Nix (Pinson Valley, Auburn) started at quarterback for the Broncos. Nix completed 13-of-22 passes for 144 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions and ran for 43 yards on four carries. Nix threw a 43-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Troy Franklin for the game’s first points with 12:36 left in the first half.
Broncos linebacker Drew Sanders (Alabama) made one tackle on special teams.
Bills wide receiver Tyrell Shavers (Alabama) in on the practice squad and not eligible to play.
Broncos cornerback Tremon Smith (Saks) returned a kickoff for 16 yards.
Bills defensive end Javon Solomon (Troy) did not record any stats.
Broncos quarterback Jarrett Stidham (Auburn) dressed for the game but did not play.
Patrick Surtain II (Alabama) started at cornerback for the Broncos. Surtain made five tackles.
After a 13-4 regular-season record and a Wild-Card Weekend win, Buffalo moves on in the AFC playoffs as the second seed to face the No. 3 Baltimore Ravens in the Divisional Round. The No. 1 Kansas City Chiefs start the postseason after a first-round bye against the No. 4 Houston Texans in the Divisional Round.
The NFL has not set the times and dates for the games.
At 10-7 in the regular season, Denver held the No. 7 seed for the AFC playoffs in its first postseason appearance since the 2015 season.
