NFL Monday night: Steelers OLBs beat Browns

Pittsburgh’s outside linebackers accounted for the first and last touchdowns in the Steelers’ 26-22 victory over the Cleveland Browns on Monday night.

Alex Highsmith returned an interception 30 yards for a touchdown on the first snap of the game, then had a strip-sack of Cleveland QB Deshaun Watson, with T.J. Watt scooping up the loose football for a 16-yard TD fumble return for the winning score with 6:58 to play.

Up from the practice squad, running back Tony Jones Jr. scored his first two NFL touchdowns on a pair of 2-yard carries in the second half as the New Orleans Saints held off the Carolina Panthers 20-17 in the NFL’s other Monday night game.

The Browns suffered more than a loss in the standings against Pittsburgh. Nick Chubb sustained a knee injury in the first minute of the second quarter, and Cleveland coach Kevin Stefanski said after the game that the four-time Pro Bowl running back will miss the remainder of the season.

Next on the Browns’ running-back depth chart is former Alabama ball-carrier Jerome Ford.

Ford ran for 106 yards on 16 carries and caught three passes for 25 yards and one touchdown on Monday night. Ford entered the game with 48 yards on 23 rushing attempts and no receptions in his NFL career.

His first reception went for a 3-yard touchdown on the play after Chubb was injured, and Ford broke a 69-yard run to the Pittsburgh 1-yard line that set up a touchdown as Cleveland took a 22-19 lead with 10:01 left in the third quarter.
