NFL Monday night: Jets stumble to loss against Chargers

Maybe the New York Jets should have Yvarta Henderson back in Birmingham start critiquing the team’s offense.

As part of its coverage of the NFL game on Monday night, ESPN detailed how the grandmother of New York linebacker Quincy Williams and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams still coaches them up – and they’re doing pretty well.

Quincy Williams was the AFC Defensive Player of the Month for October, and Quinnen Williams is coming off an All-Pro season. And on Monday night, the Jets limited the Los Angeles Chargers to 191 yards.

But the Chargers still beat New York 27-6. The Jets offense converted three of its 17 third-down snaps, yielded eight sacks of quarterback Zach Wilson and lost three fumbles.

Los Angeles safety Alohi Wilson returned one of the fumbles 48 yards to the New York 2-yard line to set up a touchdown, and the Chargers had scored a touchdown after the previous fumble, too.

The Jets defense wasn’t even on the field for Los Angeles’ first points: Chargers wide receiver Derius Davis returned a punt 87 yards for a touchdown 1:45 into the game.

Wilson completed 33-of-49 passes for 263 yards. The sacks cost the Jets 57 yards. Wilson became the second New York quarterback with at least 30 completions but not a touchdown pass in a game.

· Jets linebacker Jamien Sherwood (Auburn) made one tackle on special teams.
