NFL fines Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts threw one interception in a 33-25 victory over the New York Giants on Monday. It cost the Eagles six points and Hurts $16,391.
Giants cornerback Adoree Jackson picked off a pass by Hurts when Philadelphia tight end Dallas Goedert slipped coming out of his cut. Jackson returned the interception 76 yards for a touchdown to cut the Eagles’ lead to 20-18 with nine seconds left in the third quarter.
Hurts pulled down Jackson, but not before he got across the goal line. The former Alabama quarterback was penalized for a horse-collar tackle on the play, which prompted the $16,391 fine for unnecessary roughness from the NFL announced on Saturday.
The NFL fined two other players from Alabama high schools and colleges for transgressions during Week 16 games:
· Los Angeles Chargers tight end Gerald Everett (UAB/South Alabama) was fined $16,391 for unnecessary roughness. The NFL took exception to Everett’s blocking on a Chargers’ rushing attempt with 11:10 remaining in the third quarter of Los Angeles’ 24-22 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Saturday. Everett was not penalized on the play.
· Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens (Hoover) was fined $16,391 for unsportsmanlike conduct. The NFL took exception to Pickens’ behavior on a 66-yard touchdown reception with 9:38 left in the third quarter. Pickens was not penalized on the play, which was his second TD reception of the Steelers’ 34-11 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals on Saturday. Pickens had an 86-yard TD reception in the first quarter.
