NFL fines 2 former Alabama players for Week 14 plays
The NFL has fined Houston Texans defensive lineman Will Anderson Jr. for the second time this season, the league announced on Saturday.
The NFL fined the former Alabama All-American $16,391 for a hit on New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson on a second-and-10 snap at the Houston 44-yard line in the third quarter of the Texans’ 30-6 loss on Sunday.
Anderson was called for roughing the passer on the play.
Anderson also was penalized for roughing the passer during Houston’s 30-27 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals on Nov. 12, and the NFL had fined him $16,391 for that, too.
Among the other 22 NFL players fined for transgressions during Week 14 games were two Philadelphia Eagles defensive backs — safety Reed Blankenship, a former West Limestone High School standout, and cornerback Eli Ricks, an Alabama alumnus.
The NFL fined Blankenship $4,843, citing unnecessary roughness for a hit on Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson in the second quarter of Philadelphia’s 33-13 loss on Sunday. Blankenship was not called for a penalty on the play, and he had to leave the game to be evaluated for a head injury after the hit.
Blankenship was fined the same amount by the NFL for unnecessary roughness after the Eagles’ 23-14 victory over the Los Angeles Rams on Oct. 8.
Ricks also was fined for unnecessary roughness for a play against Dallas that did not draw a flag. Ricks was fined $4,185 for his actions during a Cowboys’ punt in the third quarter.
Blankenship returned to full practice participation on Thursday and is expected to be back in the lineup for Philadelphia’s Monday night game against the Seattle Seahawks.
However, Anderson has not recovered from an ankle injury sustained against the Jets, did not practice this week and has been ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans.
