NFL fines 2 Alabama alumni for Week 7 penalties
The 18 players fined by the NFL for actions in Week 7 games include three with Alabama football roots, with one fined twice.
Former Hoover High School star George Pickens had five receptions for 107 yards in the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 24-17 victory over the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. But the Steelers wide receiver had an illegal blindside block on the final play of the first quarter that garnered an $8,525 fine and a taunting penalty with 12:06 left to play that also drew an $8,525 fine.
New England Patriots defensive tackle Christian Barmore (Alabama) drew a roughing-the-passer penalty for a hit on Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen with 6:36 to play in a 29-25 victory on Sunday. The NFL fined Barmore $12,913 for the infraction.
New York Giants safety Xavier McKinney (Alabama) picked up an unnecessary-roughness penalty with 53 seconds left in the third quarter of a 14-7 victory over the Washington Commanders on Sunday. McKinney received a $14,833 fine from the NFL.
Not on the fine list for Week 7 was Denver Broncos safety Kareem Jackson (Alabama). In the Broncos’ 19-17 victory over the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, Jackson was flagged for unnecessary roughness and ejected in the fourth quarter.
Jackson already has been fined four times by the NFL this season, and Sunday was his second disqualification of 2023.
The NFL suspended Jackson for Denver’s next four games. That was reduced to two games on appeal. While Jackson was not fined, he will not be paid during his suspension, which will cost him $279,444 of his 2023 salary.
