NFL Combine: Which tight end ran fastest on Thursday?
Washington’s Devin Culp ran away with the title of fastest tight end at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine with a 4.47-second 40-yard dash on Friday.
Culp’s time was the fourth-best for a tight end in what the NFL considers the modern history of the combine (since 2003). Maryland’s Vernon Davis in 2006 and Pittsburgh’s Dorin Dickerson in 2010 ran 4.40, and Ole Miss’ Evan Engram ran 4.42 in 2017.
Penn State’s Theo Johnson finished as the runner-up to Culp on Friday with a 4.57-second clocking. Arizona’s Tanner McLachlan and Florida State’s Jaheim Bell tied for third at 4.61.
No players from Alabama high school or colleges are among the 16 tight ends at this year’s combine.
Two SEC tight ends are, but neither Georgia’s Brock Bowers or South Carolina’s Trey Knox ran the 40 on Friday.
In the other measured drills on Friday, the leaders among the tight ends included:
Vertical jump: A 40-inch effort by Kansas State’s Ben Sinnott topped the field of tight ends with Penn State’s Johnson one-half inch behind. Third-best Jared Wiley of TCU was at 37 inches.
Broad jump: Sinnot and Johnson also went 1-2 at this jumping station. Sinnott cleared 10 feet, 6 inches, with Johnson 1 inch behind. Florida State’s Bell cleared 10 feet, 4 inches.
