NFL Combine: Which cornerback ran fastest on Friday?
Clemson’s Nate Wiggins became the first player to run under 4.3 seconds in the 40-yard dash at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine on Friday.
Unfortunately for Wiggins, though, he got hurt while becoming fastest cornerback at the combine on Friday and limped off the turf after turning in a 4.28-second clocking in the 40.
Toledo’s Quinyon Mitchell at 4.33 seconds and Mississippi State’s Decamerion Richardson at 4.34 seconds came in second- and third-fastest among the cornerbacks at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
Auburn’s Nehemiah Pritchett had the fourth-fastest time among the cornerbacks at 4.36 seconds. A former Jackson High School standout, Pritchett was among the five cornerbacks with Alabama football roots to run the 40 on Friday:
· Missouri’s Kris Abrams-Draine (Spanish Fort High School): 4.44 seconds
· Alabama’s Terrion Arnold: 4.50 seconds
· Oregon’s Khyree Jackson (Alabama): 4.50 seconds
· Auburn’s DJ James (Spanish Fort High School): 4.42 seconds
Georgia’s Kamari Lassiter (American Christian Academy in Tuscaloosa), Alabama’s Kool-Aid McKinstry (Pinson Valley High School) and Arizona State’s Ro Torrence (Bessemer City High School, Auburn) did not run the 40 with the other cornerbacks.
McKinstry revealed combine medical examinations had found a broken bone in his foot.
Five other cornerbacks from the SEC ran the 40 on Friday:
· South Carolina’s Marcellas Dial: 4.46 seconds
· Arkansas’ Dwight McGlothern: 4.47 seconds
· Kentucky’s Andru Phillips: 4.48 seconds
· Ole Miss’ Deantre Prince: 4.38 seconds
· Missouri’s Ennis Rakestraw Jr.: 4.51 seconds
In the other measured drills on Friday, the leaders among the cornerbacks included:
Vertical jump: Boston College’s Elijah Jones and Penn State’s Daequan Hardy tied for the top spot at this station among the cornerbacks by getting up 42.5 inches. Kentucky’s Phillips came in third at 42 inches.
Broad jump: Rutgers’ Max Melton cleared 11 feet, 4 inches (136 inches) to top the cornerbacks. Phillips was 1 inch back, and Oregon’s Jackson was third at 11 feet, 1 inch.
