NFL Combine: How the state players performed Thursday
Alabama’s Dallas Turner had the best vertical jump on the first day of field drills at the NFL Scouting Combine on Thursday.
Turner cleared 40.5 inches at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, which was 1 inch better than any of the other defensive tackles, edge rushers and linebackers who participated on Thursday.
Turner’s vertical jump was the third-best turned in at the combine by an Alabama player in this century. Defensive end Mark Anderson in 2006 and wide receiver Henry Ruggs III in 2020 had vertical jumps of 42 inches.
Among players from Alabama high schools and colleges since 2000, Turner’s vertical jump on Thursday is tied for seventh-best. The state record is held by former Homewood High School running Ameer Abdullah at 42.5 inches during the 2015 combine.
Turner had the second-fastest 40-yard dash time on Thursday at 4.46 seconds. North Carolina State linebacker Payton Wilson had the fastest 40 at 4.43 seconds.
At 10 feet, 7 inches, Turner was 1 inch short of the best broad jump on Thursday, with three players clearing 10 feet, 8 inches.
The defensive tackles, edge rushers and linebackers had the option to participate in the 40-yard dash, vertical jump, broad jump, three-cone drill and shuttle run and were put through position work by NFL coaches and scouts, too.
