NFL Combine: How the state players performed Saturday
The field day for each position at the NFL Scouting Combine includes the opportunity to participate in five measured drills. But more often than not, players don’t participate in all five – the 40-yard dash, vertical jump, broad jump, three-cone drill and shuttle run.
That wasn’t the case for two Alabama high school alumni who were part of the wide-receiver group on the field at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on Saturday.

Charlotte’s Grant DuBose and Louisiana’s Michael Jefferson took part in all five of the measured events in addition to running through position drills run by NFL coaches and scouts.
An alumnus of Park Crossing in Montgomery, DuBose had his best showing in the three-cone drill, where his 6.89-second run ranked third among wide receivers.
An alumnus of Murphy in Mobile who played at Alabama State between the Panthers and Louisiana, Jefferson had an 11-foot, 1-inch broad jump that ranked fourth among wide receivers.
On Saturday, quarterbacks, wide receivers and tight ends were on the field at the NFL Scouting Combine, and five players from Alabama high schools and colleges participated:
Louisville quarterback Malik Cunningham (Park Crossing): 4.53-second 40-yard dash (third among quarterbacks) and 10-foot, 1-inch broad jump. Cunningham did not participate in the vertical jump, three-cone drill and shuttle run.
Houston wide receiver Tank Dell (Alabama A&M): 4.49-second 40-yard dash. Dell did not participate in the vertical jump, broad jump, three-cone drill and shuttle run. While Dell’s 40 time was tied for 21st-fastest among the wide receivers, he covered the first 10 yards of the run faster than all but two of the players.
Charlotte wide receiver Grant DuBose (Park Crossing): 4.57-second 40-yard dash, 35-inch vertical jump, 10-foot, 5-inch broad jump, 6.89-second three-cone drill (third among wide receivers) and 4.32-second shuttle run.
Louisiana wide receiver Michael Jefferson (Murphy, Alabama State): 4.56-second 40-yard dash, 37-inch vertical jump, 11-foot, 1-inch broad jump (fourth among wide receivers), 7.03-second three-cone drill and 4.56-second shuttle run.
Alabama tight end Cameron Latu: Latu did not participate in the measured drills.
South Alabama wide receiver Jalen Wayne (Spanish Fort): 4.51-second 40-yard dash, 34.5-inch vertical jump and 10-foot, 4-inch broad jump. Wayne did not participate in the three-cone drill and shuttle run.
Alabama quarterback Bryce Young: Young did not participate in the measured drills.
The players will have the opportunity to participate in the bench press on Sunday morning. In the bench press, each player does as many repetitions as he can with a 225-pound weight bar.
