NFL Combine has 10 percent Alabama football roots

Of the 319 players at this week’s NFL Scouting Combine, 31 played at Alabama high schools or colleges.

The annual event has gathered the top prospects for the 2023 NFL Draft in Indianapolis, where they’ll be checked by medical staff, interviewed by team decision-makers and put through drills to gauge their football skills and tests to measure their athleticism by coaches and scouts.

The former Alabama high school stars at this year’s combine include:

· Louisiana wide receiver Michael Jefferson (Murphy), who played at Alabama State from 2018 through 2020.

Andrews, Dale and Wayne are among 23 players who have come from Alabama college programs to the NFL Scouting Combine.

McBride and Bryce Young won’t participate in the on-the-field drills but are attending to meet with NFL personnel. They hope to do their athletic work at their pro days.

The players will be on the field in Lucas Oil Stadium from Thursday through Sunday, with the defensive linemen and linebackers on the turf on Thursday, defensive backs and specialists on Friday, quarterbacks, wide receivers and tight ends on Saturday and offensive linemen and running backs on Sunday.

With Alabama providing the most players, Georgia next with 12 and Florida and LSU tied for third with Michigan and TCU with nine apiece, the SEC leads all conferences with 83 players, more than twice as many as any other league except the Big Ten.
