Newly promoted Auburn QB coach Kent Austin to receive $150,000 raise
Kent Austin, who was promoted to Auburn’s quarterbacks coach from his previous role as an analyst, will receive a $150,000 raise as part of his new contract, according to a copy of the agreement acquired by AL.com in a public records request.
His salary for the 2024 season will be $400,000. The new deal began on Jan. 15 and will expire on Jan. 27, 2027.
Austin’s previous contract, which expired on Jan. 31, paid him a $250,000 base salary and did not include any endorsement rights payment or personal appearances fee. The new contract owes him $75,000 in endorsements and $75,000 in personal appearances payments, totaling the $150,000 raise.
Should Austin remain at Auburn, he will receive a $200,000 raise on Feb. 1, 2025, and another $350,000 raise on Feb. 1, 2026, bringing the potential total salary of his contract to $950,000 for the 2026 season.
The contract includes a fully guaranteed buyout for the remaining money owed to him during the term of the deal.
Should Austin choose to leave Auburn, he will owe $375,000 should he do so before Dec. 20, 2024, $250,000 should he do so before Dec. 20, 2025, or $125,000 should he do so before Dec. 20, 2026.
Though Austin will not owe Auburn anything should he accept a new position as a head coach, a play-calling coordinator or any job in the NFL, according to the terms of the contract.
Austin was head coach Hugh Freeze’s co-offensive coordinator at Liberty from 2019-2022. He was also the offensive coordinator at Ole Miss from 2008-2009 — with Auburn offensive coordaintor Derrick Nix on that staff.
